NGMC names Director of GME Research and Scholarly Activity

October 15, 2018

Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) has offered patients in our community the opportunity to participate in advanced clinical research trials for over 20 years.  The Office of Research Administration at NGMC provides patients with new therapeutic treatments through participation in numerous research studies available in the areas of cardiology, oncology and other specialties. Our expert physicians, as well as other physicians in our community, serve as principal investigators on a number of cutting-edge clinical research studies which provide medications and medical devices that have the potential to impact the future of medicine. Residents who join Northeast Georgia Medical Center for internal medicine training will have the advantage of working with our talented physicians who are contributing to the greater wealth of information that helps improve the lives of our patients.

We are excited to welcome a new addition to the NGMC GME leadership team. Gretchen Holmes, Ph.D. recently joined our team as the director of GME research and scholarly activity. Dr. Holmes’ main responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist all NGMC programs in teaching research methods
  • Create scholarly activities for NGMC residents
  • Support NGMC faculty in their research and scholarly activities
  • Publish in the field of Graduate Medical Education.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be here. GME is such a dynamic environment for learning and scholarship and to have the opportunity to build the GME research infrastructure prior to residents arriving will make the experience much more robust. I’m looking forward to building research partnerships throughout the hospital, the Northeast Georgia Health System and the community.”

Dr. Holmes earned her PhD in health communication from the University of Kentucky in 2003. Her undergraduate and master’s degrees are in communication from New York University. In her previous position, Dr. Holmes served as DIO/director of GME at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, FL.

We are excited to have Dr. Holmes and her wealth of expertise to ensure Northeast Georgia physicians are hardwired for excellence.
