Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

About The Program

The Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Georgia Heart Institute, formerly The Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) is a three-year ACGME program with six positions offered per year for prospective fellows. All fellows participate in clinical activities for at least 24 months during the training period. The content and level of training achieved by each fellow is based on the American College of Cardiology Core Cardiology Training Statement (COCATS4). The total amount and specifics of clinical training will be individually determined to best meet the career goals of each fellow.

At the time of completing training, the fellow should be capable of culturally competent independent clinical practice utilizing current evidence-based prevention, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions for patients with a variety of cardiovascular disorders, and be able to contribute to scholarship and education within the discipline.

To allow for appropriate development of each fellow, our faculty provide direct supervision during clinical rotations while allowing fellow autonomy based on the level of training and the clinical situation. Fellows will also have regular meetings with program leadership and many other faculty members throughout their training for career development and to assess each fellow’s progress.

What Research Opportunities do I have?

Our fellows work closely with the Georgia Heart Institute to continually study and evaluate current medications, procedures and technologies to identify the best and most effective methods to care for patients.

By participating in clinical trials and research, we have access to an international community of heart and vascular clinicians with whom we can collaborate to ensure that we’re using the latest techniques and most recent discoveries to improve patient care.
