Supplemental Didactics

In addition to weekly didactics, you will have supplemental didactic sessions to provide with longitudinal education on a variety of extra-curricular topics that will be key to a long and productive career in emergency medicine. Some of these longitudinal themes include how to be an effective educator, wellness, evidence-based evaluation of current literature, patient safety, career guidance, and fundamentals of research and scholarship. Some of the supplemental didactic sessions include:

  • CORE series during intern year combined with residents of other specialties and covering the fundamentals of wellness, quality and patient safety, and research and scholarship.
  • Monthly journal club with faculty, hosted at a faculty member’s house to allow for socialization and informal mentorship between residents of all levels and faculty.
  • ‘Year Directed’ sessions specific to your year of training. For example, PGY1 sessions will include topics such as sleep hygiene, surviving residency, and finding a mentor; PGY2 sessions will include developing a career niche, how to deliver a lecture, and understanding patient safety and cognitive bias; and PGY3 sessions will cover finding a job, negotiating a contract, and how to be an effective clinical educator.
