The Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) GME program has big plans for training all of our residents and faculty on how to write and publish their own research, case studies and more in peer-review scientific journals. Our ultimate goal in promoting publishing research in our programs is to help others across the country and world learn from cases and research originating at NGMC.
Getting published is a multi-step process that often starts with writing an interesting medical case and submitting to a journal for review. Some advanced residents may want to publish a case series or perhaps a small chart review study. Other ambitious residents will have opportunities to publish more complex research studies or quality improvement projects.
The office of research and scholarly activity will support residents in this effort by hosting specific lectures on how to design valid research, how to publish their work and by offering support groups and workshops for writing. Our director of research and scholarly activity, Dr. Gretchen Holmes, and our NGHS librarians, Tanisha Mills and Shannon Glover, will provide support and guidance for residents who are working to get published. Residents will also have access to a wide range of electronic resources and databases to review current literature in their area of focus and to identify journals that might be interested in their articles.

Meet Tanisha Mills
Tanisha Mills is an information infusion professional who specializes in facilitating the flow of scholarly, health sciences literature and evidence-based practice resources to researchers, clinicians, faculty, students and the public. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University and a Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. Her experience spans over a decade, from information literacy sessions for college freshmen to supporting oncology clinicians and researchers. A self-professed nerd, Tanisha enjoys binge-watching medical procedure videos, sci-fi movies and Marvel Cinematic Universe films. She is originally from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, but returned to Georgia “courtesy” of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.
Tanisha is a world traveler— some of her favorite spots are the Caribbean islands, Western Europe and Ghana. She loves experiencing world music, cuisine, visual/performing arts and history.
Meet Shannon Glover
Shannon received her Bachelor of Science in Health Science with an emphasis in Community Health Education from Georgia Southern University. She received her Master of Library and Information Science with an emphasis in Medical Librarianship from Valdosta State University. Shannon has been working in libraries for over twenty years, with a diverse background in academic, medical and public libraries. She is a member of the Medical Library Association (MLA) and the Georgia Health Sciences Library Association (GHSLA) where she serves as Outreach Chair.
Shannon’s role as librarian for Educational Services is to bridge the gap between health professionals and new and existing medical information. Encouraging and supporting research and health literacy skills is her way of improving the health of our community. She joined the Northeast Georgia Health System team in June 2017.
