Meet NGHS’s Director of Research Administration, Holly Carpenter PhD.

January 7, 2019

Meet Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) director of Research Administration, Holly Carpenter, PhD. Carpenter joined NGHS in 2018 and has quickly made an impact. During her short time at NGHS, she has established new relationships with leading pharmaceutical and device industry sponsors and brought cutting-edge clinical trial opportunities to patients.

Holly comes to NGHS after serving most recently as associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of North Georgia.

Carpenter grew up in Gainesville, Georgia and was thrilled to have the opportunity to return to her hometown and lead the research program at NGHS. She will be working with Gretchen Holmes, the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Graduate Medical Education (GME) director of research and scholarly activity to assist residents and physician faculty members with participation in clinical trial research at NGHS. If faculty and residents have an interest in participating in and serving as principal investigators in a clinical trial at NGMC, her staff will assist with study start-up, regulatory oversight, FDA required training and study data collection.

She is very proud of the rich history of research at NGHS. NGHS has been conducting clinical trials since 1995. The health system has an excellent reputation among top U.S. pharmaceutical and medical industry sponsors for being one of the top clinical trial research sites measured by quality conduct of trials and by the number of patient enrollments.

“The cutting-edge nature of research at NGMC is my passion,” said Carpenter. “We offer advanced drug and medical device treatments in the areas of cardiology and oncology to our patients that they would not receive without participation in a trial. Many of the drugs and devices we offer our patients through trials come to market as the new standard of care once they are approved by the FDA.”

Carpenter loves living in Gainesville. She is an outdoor enthusiast, so the beautiful mountains, lakes and waterfalls of the region provide the ideal environment for her to thrive. She and her husband enjoy hiking in the mountains, boating on Lake Lanier and kayaking the local rivers. She truly feels that Gainesville still has true Southern charm.

“I love working with my colleagues and the entire team at NGMC because they truly care about our patients,” said Carpenter. “Their attention to safety and quality are exemplary among other health systems. Our physicians are among the best in the world in their specialties, and the entire team is devoted to improving the health of our community in all we do.”

Please join us in welcoming Holly to NGHS!
