About

Dr. Melese graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Gondar, Ethiopia in 2000. He obtained clinical and leadership experiences in different governmental and non-governmental organizations in Ethiopia before moving to the United States.  Dr. Melese completed a Transitional Year residency program with Michigan State University in 2012.  In 2015, he completed his internal medicine residency at Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, NY, where he was chief resident.

During his chief residency, Dr. Melese realized his real passion for teaching.  Encouraged to follow this calling by fellow residents and colleagues, he joined Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, as an assistant clinical professor of Internal Medicine.  Dr. Melese was with Ohio State for three years before he joined NGPG in July 2018.

Dr. Melese considers it a great honor and privilege to supervise residents and provide excellent medical care to the diverse population of patients in Gainesville, Georgia.  His goal is to help the residents improve their education and training in medicine, not only to reach their professional goals but also to align with their personal values.

Dr. Melese’s passion and experience for teaching make him a strong addition to NGMC’s Internal Medicine Residency core faculty.

“I love practicing General Internal Medicine and I find working with residents personally and intellectually rewarding.”  -Dr. Achenef Melese
