About

Dr. Vicknair is the director of behavioral health for the Family Medicine Residency program and adjunct Psychiatry Residency faculty at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) where he teaches resident physicians and counsels patients as an integrated behavioral health specialist.

He has over 25 years of healthcare experience and is licensed as a professional counselor with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, a Master of Science degree in counseling and a PhD in clinical/health psychology. In 2024, he will complete an additional master’s degree in clinical psychopharmacology.

Prior to joining Northeast Georgia Health System, Dr. Vicknair spent 15 years working at Gwinnett Health System and Summit Ridge Hospital where he worked closely with patients struggling with addictions, physical health and other mental health challenges. He has also helped patients cope with the psychological impact of medical conditions including chronic pain, cardiovascular conditions and obesity.

Dr. Vicknair’s diverse experience in hospitals, research, academic, corporate and private practice strengthens his ability to help people achieve their goals. He incorporates his experience as a business owner, adjunct professor, behavioral health specialist and a positive psychology coach to supervise, consult and teach healthcare providers who are starting or expanding their professions. Dr. Vicknair participates in various forms of outreach activities including interviews with major news networks (WSB, Fox 5), radio (WGUN), social media, podcasts, keynote presentations to schools and corporations, as well as providing health promotion education to local organizations (boards of health, hospitals, shelters, county chambers and more). Dr. Vicknair utilizes his diverse experience and knowledge to help people and organizations accomplish their goals. He is most commonly referenced for his love of learning and his passion for personal and professional development which he will utilize in the education of residents.

Dr. Vicknair, a native of Georgia, is married with two children (three children if you count his four-legged child). He comes from a family immersed in teaching and coaching; in fact, his wife is a teacher! Dr. Vicknair’s professional journey demonstrates dedication to the field of healthcare, his commitment to providing quality mental health services, and his passion for educating and supporting others. His extensive experience, credentials, and achievements make her a highly respected and valued professional in the industry.
