About

Jody Bahnmiller-Brasil, MD, FAAFP is a family medicine physician with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group. She went to the American University of the Caribbean for medical school and graduated in 2006. She then started her residency in 2007 at the University of South Alabama where she was chief resident during her final year in 2010.

She currently serves as a founding core faculty member of the Family Medicine Residency program at NGMC Graduate Medical Education in Gainesville, GA and has been doing so since 2018. Within the residency program, she chairs the CCC. Dr. Bahnmiller is also a pod leader for NGPG and helps close the gap between physicians and upper administration. She previously worked as an attending physician at NGPG Hamilton Mill in Dacula, GA from 2013-2018. Before moving to GA, she worked as an attending family medicine physician at the Medical Group of Long Beach in Long Beach, MS from 2010-2013.

She is the author of the publication “The Growing Need for RCTs of Hormonal Therapy in Transgender Women” in FPIN’s GEMS of the week. Dr. Bahnmiller has delivered numerous oral presentations on various medical topics, including gender dysphoria, gender clinic, cervical cancer, osteopenia/osteoporosis and stress to medical students, residents and other healthcare professionals. Her poster presentations at conferences include the STFM Conference on Practice and Quality Improvement and the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP) Fall Family Medicine weekend.

Dr. Bahnmiller is an active member of the GAFP with significant involvement and contributions to the organization. She has participated as a member of the Congress of Delegates in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 contributing to the strategic direction and decision-making of GAFP. She currently serves as an alternate director for GAFP, showcasing leadership and continued dedication to the organization. She was appointed to the legislative committee in 2021, indicating a passion for advocacy and shaping healthcare policy. Dr. Bahnmiller is actively participating in the student and resident recruitment committee, serving as a member in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and currently holds the position of vice chair. She also contributed as the vice chair of the bylaws committee in 2020, demonstrating a commitment to organizational governance and structure. Dr. Bahnmiller’s active involvement in GAFP showcases a deep commitment to the field of family medicine, advocacy, and supporting the growth and development of future healthcare professionals.
