Dr. Josh Mugele trained at the University of Michigan for medical School after a previous career working in Silicon Valley at software startup companies. He went to Indiana University (IU) for residency and for his disaster medicine fellowship. Dr. Mugele worked at IU as the assistant residency program director and the disaster medicine fellowship director for the past four years prior to his role at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC).
Dr. Mugele enjoys starting new programs, designing curricula, and entrepreneurship. Before coming to NGMC, he designed his own disaster medicine fellowship and has contributed to building a global health track, a gender health clinic, and a diversity and healthcare inequities task force – among other projects, at various points in his career.
His research interests include disaster medicine, global health, medical education and curricular development. Dr. Mugele is passionate about mission-driven education and has designed the Emergency Medicine residency to emphasize resident ownership of the educational process, a commitment to diversity and strong clinical training, all in the service to our patients. Dr. Mugele is married with two college-aged children.
