About

Dr. Halligan was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland College Park for undergraduate where she received her bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Neurobiology, with a Minor in Spanish. While in college, she began volunteering for Prince George’s County Fire Department. She spent seven years there during college and medical school, of which, two of those years she lived in the fire house. In exchange for providing service, she was given free room.

She started medical school in 2000 at the University of Maryland Baltimore, then did her Emergency Medicine Residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center. When she finished in 2007, she moved to the Atlanta area to be closer to her parents and two younger brothers (who had moved there the year she started college). She worked one year at Dekalb Medical Center. She spent the next seven years at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, before finally coming to Northeast Georgia Medical Center almost four years ago.

She is still involved in EMS, serving as the Region 2 Medical Director, as well as Medical Director for White County EMS and NGMC Medical Transport.
