About

Dr. Strom received her medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Emory University and a Fellowship in Trauma at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Strom started her mentoring career by training physicians at LAMB Hospital in Bangladesh, where she developed a Medical Assistant course for outpatient and community clinics. When she returned to Gainesville, she was the only general surgeon in town and helped to establish the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. After working in General Surgery, she found more and more women were coming to her with breast disease. She has now limited her practice to focus on breast surgery.

Dr. Strom is excited about GME as she loves to teach and believes that training future physicians is both a responsibility and a privilege. NGMC’s program is intent on producing competent community surgeons, and she believes her past breadth of experience can prove a lot of insight in practicing in places where the support of an academic institution is not available. She sees patients who have received sub-optimal care elsewhere, and she wants to teach young surgeons how to “do it right” and how to keep the patient’s best the priority. Her enjoyment of her practices is partly due to the ability to have a great work-life balance, and she hopes to be able to help others find that too.
