Welcome from the Inaugural Class

Hello! Bonjour! Guten tag! Hola! Konnichiwa! nǐn hǎo! Zdravstvuyte!

Thank you for choosing to apply with us! Residency applications can be stressful and terrifying, but we encourage you to look for programs with cultures that share your values. This is one of the most important parts of your development as you become the physician you’re meant to be.

As the inaugural class, we knew there would be challenges to face. It was difficult to ascertain just how accepting this environment was going to be. Luckily, some of us had the privilege of auditioning here, and the others were able to speak to faculty prior to ranking. These experiences provided us with reassurance and understanding of how fantastic of a training facility this is. Northeast Georgia Medical Center somehow has a crazy busy ER, and still manages to highlight and value its role in the community. We have high acuity, blunt and penetrating traumas, and minimal competition in the ER to do procedures, lacs, POCUS, and reductions. Our attendings and faculty are patient, knowledgeable, and have a strong desire to teach the next generation of ED docs (that’s us!). They are open to learning new things as we ask more questions and bring new ideas to the frontlines. Many of them have traveled across state lines solely for the purpose of teaching a new generation of EM physicians.

We see ourselves as a family and we value the environment we’re creating. As a class, we took it upon ourselves to create a culture statement that encompasses what we’re creating. We wanted to emphasize the importance of supporting one another, not just in residency, but in all aspects and phases of life. We vow to be ~Always United~ in medicine, in community, and in life. The relationships we build here will carry us forward into our careers. We are looking for those that can join us in helping cultivate this culture to be a fundamental aspect of our residency program. Take a look at our full cultural statement at the end of this letter.

See you on the interview trail!
