How to Apply

All applicants interested in Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s (NGMC) Family Medicine Residency Program must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Application Deadline

Your application and all supporting documentation must be submitted by November 12 of the year preceding the program start date. For example, applications are due November 12, 2019 for a June 2020 start date. The academic year normally begins on Monday during the third week of June and includes a six-week orientation.

All applications to NGMC’s GME residencies and fellowships must include these materials as supporting documentation:

  • Curriculum vitae
    • Describe your activities with professional societies, publications and any other relevant information about your education or experience.
  • Personal statement of professional goals
  • Copy of diploma from your medical school, graduate school and/or dental school
  • Dean's letter
    • Ask your medical, graduate and/or dental school to send a letter directly to the education coordinator listed in the application process of the program to which you are applying. A scanned copy, if available, is acceptable for ApplyYourself.
  • Official final transcripts
    • Transcripts must indicate degree earned and date conferred from each medical, graduate and/or dental school you attended. Scanned copies are acceptable for ApplyYourself. If you receive an appointment, official copies will be requested.
    • Provide certified or notarized English translations of documents originally written in a language other than English.
  • Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations
    • USMLE, LMCC, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX or NBME. Scanned copies are acceptable for ApplyYourself. If you receive an appointment, official copies will be requested.
  • Valid ECFMG certificate required if you graduated from a medical school outside the U.S. or Canada.
  • Three original letters of recommendation, or if specified in your program description, letters from physicians or faculty members who are thoroughly familiar with your work. If you have had prior residency training, ask your program director for a letter of recommendation. Each letter should include the writer's opinion of your professional, academic and personal qualifications as well as an opinion of your potential success in the field for which you are applying.
  • Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). You must register through the NRMP website in addition to applying through ERAS.
  • Personal interviews are by invitation only and are based on the applicant's academic performance, United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores, * letters of recommendation and other accomplishments as detailed in the ERAS application.

*U.S. applicants must schedule USMLE exams and report their Step 1 and Step 2 CK and CS scores to ensure that NGMC can download the results of these exams before the NRMP rank list deadline in mid-February. All pass-fail results need to be submitted to the program at the time they are obtained by the trainee.

Interview Dates

Interviews are conducted on selected dates from October through January. If selected for an interview, applicants will be notified by email. We are unable to provide applicants with a status report regarding their application or selection for interview.
