Well-qualified international medical school graduates may be considered for admission into NGMC’s GME residency programs. International medical graduates must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). We will partner with the ECFMG to sponsor J1 Visas only.
At this time the NGMC General Surgery Program can only consider applicants without any ACGME residency experience.
All applications to our residency program must be made through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
For the 2023 ERAS® cycle, our program will be collecting and reviewing data from applicants’ supplemental ERAS applications and utilizing Altus Suite. Completion of the standard MyERAS application and Altus Suite is a requirement; completion of the supplemental ERAS application is optional. Please see further information below.
In its second year of use, the supplemental ERAS application is designed to help applicants share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants that fit our program’s setting and mission. There is no cost to applicants and participation is optional.
The supplemental ERAS application provides:
- geographic preferences (by division and by urban or rural setting);
- information about an applicant’s most meaningful experiences and other impactful life events, if applicable; and
- program signals.
The supplemental ERAS application will be delivered on a survey platform that is separate from the MyERAS application and must be completed between August 1 and September 16, 2022.
Learn more about the AAMC supplemental ERAS application.
All applicants applying to the General Surgery Program, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center are recommended to complete Altus Suite for the 2023 ERAS cycle.
Altus Suite is a standardized, multi-part online assessment that measures different competencies and attributes that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. Altus Suite will complement the other tools that we use for applicant review and evaluation. In implementing Altus Suite, we are trying to further enhance fairness and objectivity in our selection process.
Altus Suite consists of:
- Casper: 100-120 minute online, open-response situational judgment test
- Snapshot: 15-minute one-way video interview with standardized questions*
- Duet: 15-minute value-alignment assessment*
You will register for Altus Suite for CSP-20101 – U.S. Graduate Medical Education – Residency Training
Access TakeAltus.com to create an account and for more information on important dates and requirements, and the Altus Suite assessments.
Initial interview invitations will be distributed between October 26th and November 1st, 2022. Should you be chosen for an interview, please respond in ERAS within the first 48 hours or the interview slot will be extended to others…
During the month of February after we have submitted our rank list, we will have an on-site open house with limited attendance.
All interviews are virtual this year, please enjoy this tour of our Gainesville hospital campus on our website. Formal interviews will be held with the Program Director, General Surgery Faculty and Residents to evaluate personal, academic and patient care qualities of each applicant. We encourage each applicant to come prepared with their own questions about our program.
