About

What is your pre-med major and do you feel that it prepared you for medicine? If you could go back and have a re-do, is there anything that you would change?
My pre-med major was nursing, and I worked as a nurse for six months until I realized that I wanted to do more. I wanted to learn more. As a nurse, I often just followed the orders, and you do learn a lot about medicine, but I wanted to better understand the reasoning behind every decision and treatment. If I had a re-do, I wouldn’t change anything, and I do feel like being a nurse helped give me an edge in medical school.

What are your hobbies, or what do you like to do in your free time?
I love hiking, going to the lake, anything to do with the outdoors really. Traveling. I don’t have time to go on those six hour “real” hiking trips that I used to go on. However, every now and then, I still go to the lake and sit by it.

How do you keep up with your relationships now that you’re a resident, compared to when you were in medical school?
I still talk with my family every week, even if it’s just through the phone on the way home or video chatting. My friends from medical school got matched at other locations, so I do not keep up with them as much as I used to.

You’re originally from South Carolina, so what brought you all the way to a residency program down here?
Yes, I am from Greenville, South Carolina. I loved that this residency program was newer. I also had a “second look” at this residency program and was really happy with it.

Lastly, why did you choose Emergency Medicine?
I chose Emergency Medicine because it’s a mix of everything. It is always busy, and I love that!
