Internal Medicine resident physician Riaz Mahmood, DO, MS (PGY-1) was elected Vice-Chair of the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) for the July 2020-June 2021 term.
Dr. Mahmood’s primary responsibility is to support the chair in advocating for all the internal medicine residents across Georgia. This will include presiding over meetings in the absence of the chair, organizing community outreach events for residents, traveling to the Georgia capital to propose and provide feedback for issues that are of concern for residents, and resident wellness.
“In my new role, I’d like to discuss and find solutions for better resident work-life balance and mitigating resident burnout,” said Dr. Mahmood. “I would also like to see evidence-based medicine information disseminated to residents in a timely manner – which improves patient care.”
Dr. Mahmood is looking forward to collaborating with other residency programs to share information about what is working well and where there is room for improvement. In addition, Dr. Mahmood has recently applied for National ACP leadership.
