Why consider residency training at Northeast Georgia Medical Center?

June 27, 2018

Choosing the right residency program can be daunting. To ease your research and decision process, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) is here to offer more information about our emerging Graduate Medical Education (GME) program.

Growth, Leadership and Excellence

The incoming residents of 2019 will be the first in our new GME program and will have the chance to build a health care legacy that provides concrete and lasting improvements to the lives of northeast Georgians – and their communities. As one of the founding GME classes at NGMC, residents will have the unique and exciting opportunity to be active leaders in the design of their own program, and to shape the program for future NGMC residents.

Residents will become part of one of the fastest growing health systems in Georgia, serving more than 1 million people across 18 counties— a population that continues to grow. Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) is dedicated to excellence through our consistent growth, cutting-edge technology and breakthrough ideas.

At NGMC, we are passionate about educating the future leaders in healthcare and we strive to be better tomorrow than we are today. Our faculty are dedicated to teaching as well as learning so that our program will provide residents with exposure to a variety of clinical opportunities in several settings. Residents on rotation in general surgery, for example, practice in a tertiary referral center that serves over 1,400 trauma patients per year. Residents in both general surgery and internal medicine have 24/7 access to a Medical Library, work and study areas with computer access and a simulation laboratory.

Community and Lifestyle

Residency programs are certainly demanding, so programs with opportunities to maintain a healthy work-life balance are valuable. NGMC residents will have no problem finding a breadth of leisure activities, as our Gainesville location is uniquely situated just 45 minutes from the heart of Atlanta – and lies between the shores of Lake Lanier and the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Residents will have the chance to experience a quaint small town with lively dining and arts scenes, while also having access to big city life in under an hour. Gainesville also boasts a low cost of living, where it is 4.2% lower than the national average.

NGMC is looking for residents who value respectful compassion, teamwork and collaboration, responsible stewardship and a passion for excellence. If you share these goals and if you want to help build a growing GME program in a vibrant and welcoming city, then Northeast Georgia Medical Center might be the place for you.
