Jim Kruer, MD – Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency program at NGMC

The Internal Medicine Residency program at NGMC had a phenomenal Fellowship Match Day! The Residency had nine residents and three PGY- 4 Chiefs who matched into a program.

We did extremely well! As you can see, it was a big year for Cardiology with residents going to Tucson (one), Nashville (one) and three staying here in Gainesville to train with our Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship (3).

Dr. Chew is headed to LSU, Shreveport for Critical Care, and two residents matched in hematology/oncology at VCU and Mayo, Arizona – yes, I said Mayo Clinic!

We have a future nephrologist going to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and Dr. Odeh is heading to the University of Kansas to study Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Adeqwunmi is staying in Georgia, heading to Emory School of Medicine to study Geriatric Medicine.

I am very excited and happy for all the residents. Thank you everyone for your support in training our residents, as well as all of your mentoring and letters of recommendation. It takes a village. NGMC residents are placing into very competitive fellowships!

It’s wonderful for our residents to stay here in Gainesville to train in NGMC fellowship programs. Dr. Anwar is part of the inaugural class for our Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship program, and Drs. Asreb, Mahmood and Sykalo are the second class of residents entering into the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at NGMC!
