Welcome from the Interim Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Psychiatry Residency program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC). The goal of our residency program is to provide medical training to future psychiatrists that are competent and provide high quality compassionate evidence based psychiatric care. We are committed to prepare future physicians practicing psychiatry to excel in the different areas and serve in meeting the mental health and addiction needs of the community with a humanistic approach.
Our program is based in Gainesville, Georgia, which is 50 miles north of Atlanta, sitting on the borders of 19 northeastern rural counties. This area provides a perfect environment for residency training – lakes, hills and farmland, charming small towns and protected heritage sites and home to three universities – yet near to the two metropolitan cities.
Our residency program offers diverse training sites and patient populations. Our residency training encompasses the medical, psychological, social and cultural aspects of human functioning with particular attention to the history of psychiatry and the effects of social determinants of health. The resident will have exposure to all the different areas of psychiatry including inpatient, outpatient, ECT, child and adolescent, geriatrics, forensics, integrated care and telepsychiatry. Our faculty have different training backgrounds and expertise, all committed to providing the best teaching and supervision to prepare competent psychiatrists.
We have six residency positions per year and we will recruit for six PGY-1 categorical positions. I am honored to serve as the Interim Program Director and we are excited that you are considering our residency program!
Warm Regards,
