What NGMC Internal Medicine Program Director, James A. Kruer, MD, FACP, is Looking for in Incoming Residents

August 28, 2018

We are excited to begin interviewing and selecting residents for our inaugural internal medicine residency class that will begin in July 2019. Candidates can start applying through ERAS on September 15, 2018.  Interviews will begin soon afterwards in October.

When choosing residents for our internal medicine program, James A. Kruer, MD, FACP, Program Director for Internal Medicine, will look for candidates who have displayed strong academics, leadership, interpersonal skills and personal values. Dr. Kruer will look for applicants who are passionate about internal medicine and about being well trained. Ideal candidates will be academically knowledgeable, hardworking and outcome oriented. They will have the capacity to learn, to perform what they have learned, to teach what they have learned and to offer feedback.

The Internal Medicine program is looking for certain personal characteristics such as professionalism and strong communication and interpersonal skills. We want residents who exhibit respect, compassion, honesty and humility. We value applicants who are caring, altruistic, ethically sound, patient-centered and who are both culturally minded and diversity-minded. While academic performance is certainly important, personal traits and values such as these are just as significant.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s (NGMC) residency program directors also value applicants who display strong leadership skills and an interest in becoming a leader in an emerging graduate medical education program at a leading hospital. As we build a new program, we are looking for candidates who are not afraid of the unknown and who are interested in blazing the path of building a new residency program. In this time of growth at NGMC, we are looking for candidates who are adaptable and don’t shy away from adversity and who are innovative, collaborative and have a growth mindset. We will look for prospects who have a lot of enthusiasm, personality and optimism and who are willing to work hard to set the path for future residents.

Lastly, we value candidates who are versatile in their skills and interests, who maintain a good work-life balance and who are passionate about Georgia and its communities.

Do you have these traits, and are you interested in helping build a program? Learn how to apply.
